A letter to our respected fishermen fleet:
We understand the global concerns regarding the COVID-19 outbreak in the world today. The health and well-being of our customers, employees, fishermen, and community members are at the forefront of our minds. We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy.
This letter is to inform the fishermen fleet and the community of Cordova regarding our operating plans for this summer and hopefully answer any questions you may have during these unprecedented times.
As of today, Camtu’s Alaska Wild Seafoods has plans to buy fish and carry out production, if it is lawfully possible by May. We will proceed with salmon operations this 2020 season. We are excited to continue offering a great salmon market and support to our Cordovan fishermen. We appreciate every fisherman’s hard-work of providing the most sought after protein to the world.
At the workplace, The Camtu’s Alaska Wild Seafoods team has been diligently working on methods to prevent the spread of the virus and prioritizing safety and well-being for everyone. New policies, procedures, and training are being prepared to ensure that we can safely operate this season. Our team will be ready to respond to any issues that may arise, accordingly.
In regards to the state’s Health Mandate on March 23rd, any individual, such as fishermen, traveling into Alaska are required to self-quarantine for 14 days and submit response plans to the Alaska Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development. These response plans must outline the protocols and procedures on how to protect community members by preventing the spread of COVID-19. All response plans are to be emailed to: AlaskaDevelopment@alaska.gov.
To assist fishermen during the self-quarantine period, we will be offering delivery services to your vessel or stalls for groceries, parts, and tools on Saturdays. All orders must be called in to your desired local store, pre-paid, and prepared for pick-up before noon. Our fleet manager will pick up the orders and do drop-offs to stalls/vessels after 2 PM. These delivery services will begin April 4th, 2020. Please submit delivery requests to our fleet manager, Tyler, at (907) 831 – 6177. This new phone number should be activated by April 4th, however, if you have any issues, please contact the office manager, Trinh, at (206) 909 – 1187. This service will be offered until fishing begins.
In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it will require collaborative efforts from everyone. We urge all community members and the fleet to follow guidelines from the Center for Disease Control and the World Health Organization to keep you, your friends, family, and community protected.
We will proceed to follow the news of the rapidly changing outbreak and issue additional updates, as necessary.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our office. We’d be happy to help anytime.
We thank everyone for your support and wishing great health to all.
Sincerely,
Camtu Ho & Thai Vu
President/CEO and Vice-President
